What Your Underwear Drawer Reveals About You

What Your Underwear Drawer Reveals About You

It’s very exciting to unwrap all those goodies left by Santa.  But as you lounge on the couch digesting turkey and Christmas pudding, thoughts inevitably turn to housing and display your new treasures.   If you feel stressed just thinking about the disorder that’s invaded your home…and your life…then it’s time to de-clutter.

Earlier this year I was delighted to meet an inspirational Feng Shui master when she spoke at one of my events.  After hearing her wisdom 100′s of women dashed about de-cluttering and rearranging their homes, myself included….with great results.

Now it’s probably taken quite a while to accumulate all your ‘stuff’, so don’t fret about tackling the whole house tomorrow.  According to my Feng Shui Master, a great placed to start is your wardrobe.  Having an organised wardrobe is the first step to de-stressing your life.  Makes sense, imagine how great it will feel to know exactly what outfit to wear for an upcoming media interview or networking brunch.

Here are some tips on how to transform dishevelled chaos into an organised masterpiece.

  • If you’re serious about achieving your goals you need to free your life of clutter.
And your wardrobe is the best place to start.
  • The state of your wardrobe is pivotal to your identity.
It reveals your personality, insecurities, desires, triumphs, frustrations and secrets.  What is yours saying about you?
  • Hang everything according to colour.
By hanging all whites together, blacks together, reds together, through the rainbow your eyes are directed more easily to what you’re looking for.
  • Most of us wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time.
Yes, the old Pareto principle (or 80/20 rule) which states that we get 80% of our results from 20% of our efforts is at play amongst your apparel.
  • Get advise from experts.
We all know the exponential power of having a mentor guiding us.  So if you’re not sure what style works best for you, consult a professional stylist.  You’ll save lots of money when you eliminate those disastrous purchase blunders.
  • Get tough with ourself and be ruthless.
You can expect some emotions when clearing out your wardrobe.  Some outfits will remind you of past experiences, both good and bad.  Your wardrobe may be stuffed to the brim with energy and emotion and this exercise may become a cathartic purging of the past.

So as you hang all your whites together and discard those pants you’ve been hanging onto for 3 seasons, you may experience some initial struggle.  It’s important to just surrender to the process.  But most of all have fun.  This is the time to craft a whole new You.  A new look.  A new style.  A new system.  Remember it’s much easier to remain organised once the systems are in place

So spend an afternoon over the holidays to de-cluttering your wardrobe and you’ll not only look, but feel fabulous in 2010.
